What's Your Story?
So you have just completed an exercise where you have thought about your 'why', what's on your mind and why you are here?
So next is 'What'. What's your story? What are the key moments that have shaped you?
I'm now referring to everything about your life in the past. The purpose of this is to find out the key moments that makes you, 'you?'
It's a simple question, but not very easy to answer.
Just like the scene in 'Up', where the main character, Carl, reflects on his life and remembers the big moments, the dreams, loves, loss, all the good and difficult times. All of those experiences shape Carl into who he is today.
Just like Carl, your 'past you' has helped shape your 'today you'; it can explain what you think about, what your dreams are, how you show up and see the world.
In Joe Dispenza's book, (I highly recommend this) 'Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself' (2017), he explains that your "past you" has profoundly shaped your "today you."
He states that our past experiences, thoughts, and emotions become so deeply ingrained in our brains and bodies that they lead our current and future thoughts, emotions and perceptions of reality. They also influence our aspirations and dreams.
By telling your story, I'd like you to draw or write down all the major parts of your life - your childhood, school, key influences, what you love to do, your life challenges, your loves, hard times, laughter, tears, friendships, career, dreams.
Tell your story, this is you on a page in whatever format you prefer - draw pictures, get some coloured pens and pencils out, write it down, think about it for a while and take some notes. As a guide, I have attached my story below in full colour for you all to see. (I designed mine in Canva because I'm not great at drawing, but pens and pencils work just as fine!)
It's your story and you're in charge, so you do 'you' in whatever way you prefer.
So, what's your story? What are the key moments that have shaped you?
